Rebel Radio

In class we further discussed copyright laws.  I noticed that in the article there was an entire section devoted to music and during  the in class discussion there was much time devoted to the same thing.  I assume that this is because music is where this topic has become so publicly debated.  Before the internet or actually around the same time it was becoming a form of entertainment in households.  I was involved in an activist group that called themselves Rebel Radio.  We made it our mission to broadcast music that would most likely never be heard on the radio.  We used to broadcast in Albuquerque, NM every Tuesday from 7pm-1am (or whenever we ran out of DJ’s).  I suppose that because of this background, when I hear or see a bunch of millionaire musicians getting all uptight because a large number of people got to hear their music for free it always makes me think of those musicians that refused to conform to the mold that censors and music publishers laid out for them.  How ridiculous these conformists look crying over free publicity.  Does anyone truly believe that these musicians are going broke because of pirated music?  I really have no sympathy for them.  Especially considering that most of these musicians don’t have the artistic intelligence to recognize the value of writing their own music or lyrics.  It’s sad really, as early as the fifties artist such as Buddy Holly broke the publishers in so that future musicians could have more control over their music.  Here we are 2011 and Britney Spears is on T.V crying because some people stole her art.  I say what art all she really did was learn how to sing (and even that is debatable in my opinion). It’s equitable to learning how to bake and then claiming you invented the lasagna.
